Quenched some major nostalgia thirst yesterday going to Universal Studios :))) I was a bit hesitant on going, but I have to say, it was pretty fun. Even though I would’ve preferred going with certain closer people. Lines were a bitch, of course. Memorial weekend, but they were open til 10pm for the weekend so that was good. Biggest line was Transformers 3D, which just opened on the 25th. It lived up to its hype though, I’d say. Definitely one of the better attractions there, if not the best. It was like Back to the Future! Speaking of which, I missed that so much. It was replaced by The Simpsons 3D ride, which is actually pretty good. Someone said he thought Simpsons felt smoother while Transformers was too incoherent to tell whats going on, and that’s pretty true when you look at the movies and such. Simpsons was more silly fun to me, while I was actually cheering and rooting for Bumblebee and Optimus. Whereas Simpsons is a decent successor to Back to the Future, I was extremely disappointed with Revenge of the Mummy. That thing replaced E.T., a ride that should’ve NEVER been taken down. It was just a very bad copy of Indiana Jones from Disneyland. After the ride takes off, the place is too dark, and the effects and props were dumb. Not worth remembering at all. Another nostalgic factor was Jurassic Park, which I was happy and excited for. I didn’t feel like getting soaked but its not as bad as I remember for a water ride. The props were exactly as I remember, glad they didn’t change a thing. The Studio Tour was also great, as always, except the King Kong part was not the same as the original. The new 3D part was pretty awesome, being based off the newest movie. I still miss the old one to death though. I remember the chills I got when I was little. Also, it was too bad that we sat in the first car of the tram, the middle one is definitely the best because you see everything the clearest from there. They added some new parts too, as well as keeping some old classics that I remember. Skipped Terminator 2 3D, and the other shows since we didn’t really have time. The biggest stress factor of the day was when I lost my phone after Shrek 4D, the first place we went to after getting in the park. The seats shook and bounced during the show so it fell out of my pocket and I had realized it only after we stepped out of the building. There was no time to go in and search since they immediately let the next set of people in throughout the entire day, so we had to report it in the guest services building and hope for the best. After 10pm when places started closing, we were finally able to search and a member of the VERY LAST audience had it and handed it over. Thank God ^^;; It just sucked that I couldn’t take any pictures for myself the whole time.
My best to worst:
- Transformers (intense, epic, and exciting. true successor to Back to the Future, imo.)
- Jurassic Park (classic and untouched, I hope they keep it that way.)
- Simpsons (solid addition and fun.)
- Studio Tour (not the best view from the tram and it was getting dark during the second half of the tour.)
- Shrek (fun ride/show. not sure how i’d rate it compared to T2 since it’s been too long and I didn’t go to it, but its more of a ride since its 4D.)
- Mummy (terrible successor to E.T., a crappier and shorter Indiana Jones with no story or memorable effects. I give it props for no 3D, but it could be much better.)
I’m sure I would’ve rated anything else above Mummy too, if we went. I won’t mind too much to go to Universal again, depending on the group and for how long. Gotta hit all the good ones again and Terminator 3D, WaterWorld, Special Effects Stage, and Animal Actors next time! Almost everything is 3D now, but hey thats how it is now, I guess.
Bobcats: 7-59, 23 L streak whole season..
